OUR STORY
1948 – IDLEWILD
The name “Idlewild” was taken from the Idlewild Golf Course that previously occupied the site on Jamaica Bay. The golf course itself had borrowed the name from a 19th-century developer’s resort.
Famous for encouraging major international airlines to design and build their own striking, futuristic individual terminals rather than using a single generic building. This area was known as “Terminal City”.
Following the assassination of President John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1963, the New York City Council voted unanimously to rename the facility. On December 24, 1963, Idlewild officially became John F. Kennedy International Airport.
2026 – A NEW AGE
We named our shop Idlewild because we share that timeless passion for aviation history, but also because we understand what keeps an airport moving. As a local shop rooted right here in the community, we proudly manufacture the high-quality signage that guides JFK’s ground services, airline partners, and local businesses every single day. From the tarmac to your storefront, we bring the spirit of aviation and precision craftsmanship to every sign we build.
